I know that this thread is old and has been revived twice in the past couple of years, so I will take a stab at it regarding the saber of Spruce McCoy Baird mentioned by Mike Thomasson.

While researching my great-great-grandfather, Spruce McCoy Baird, I found that Cowan's Auctions in Ohio had a saber purported to be his. It was in the possession of Baird relatives that no one in my family even knew existed!

Another great-great-grandson of Spruce McCoy Baird told me that the "It appears from Andrew Baird's diary from 1927 that the Ames sword did not belong to Spruce Baird. The sword belonged to Major Wells who was living with the Baird's in New Mexico. He was trying to recover from consumption. He leaves New Mexico with the Baird's as Sibley retreats to Texas. Wells dies in San Antonio. Andrew Baird confirms that his brother Spruce had the Sword."

It was auctioned at Cowan's Auction in Ohio in 2009 or 2010. I had a photograph of it, and I will try to find it if anyone is interested.
