after rereading these post I decided to look over my notes from my last visit to the state archives. They are on green paper and written in pencil. I have just been writing names of soldiers , officer and others . While going through John S. Ford's order books I was able to write down many names and sometimes given and surnames too. It is my belief that there were many more soldiers out there than listed in some of the books available , N.P.S. etc. One of the things I wrote down that I found interesting was an order to Captain Cocke. I assume the order was from Col. Ford. " Captain Cocke will send a Lt. and 20 men to escort Commodore Semmes to King's Rancho. The best horses will be selected for the purpose. The escort will travel with the state and guard vigilantly against surprise. The officer in charge of the escort after having performed the duty assigned will return and report with his command to Captain Cocke for duty. Just briefly 3 more in Cockes Co. Lt.S.L.. Warren , ---- Powers , and ------ Means. Will keep an eye out for more. Regards, Charlie Peal
