I tried to locate a specific reference to the tannery in the Confederate Citizens and Business files but with no luck. You may need to check a local county history or individuals on the yearly tax lists. There were many tanneries throughout Texas during the war and certainly wherever cattle was slaughtered the hides were important. As you also know nearby Marshall was an important Trans-Mississippi quartermaster depot.
