John Dunn, Private, Capt. A. J. Scarborough's Cavalry Company (Davis Guards),* his name appears on an undated July 1861 muster roll, presence not stated, no other records

* This company subsequently became Company B, 4th Regiment Texas Cavalry.

The regiment was also known as the 1st Regiment, Sibley's Brigade Texas Mounted Volunteers, and as the 4th Regiment Texas Mounted Volunteers

Sir, having tendered my Co. to Gen. Van Dorn for the defense of Texas I Received your Reply in which you promised to lay our offer before the Gen'l I thought proper to forward you my Muster Roll, in case the Genl Saw fit to accept our service to arm us etc., that he would know our number etc, etc. We have been in camp drilling under Col. R. T.P. Allen of Bastrop for two weeks & will continue for some two weeks yet unless we are ordered out. Awaiting orders.

Scarborough, mustered into service August 27 at San Antonio, value of horse, $75, equipment, $20, recorded on April 30, 1862 as absent, Hospital Albuquerque Apr. 12, 1862, horse turned over Feb. 27, A. A. Q. M. by order Gen Sibley, captured April 15, 1862 at hospital, Albuquerque, forwarded to Fort Riley, Ks. and paroled April 17, subsequently sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. prison, arriving August 24, sent to Vicksburg to be exchanged, September, 1862, no further records

*** This company subsequently became Company B, 4th Regiment Texas Cavalry
