Re: Topographic Bureau, District of Texas, New Mex

I emailed the National Archives about our map, asking about what parts I-VII might be, and do they have copies. I got this reply:

The maps of the Military Reconnaissance of the Sabine River by Rosenberg ordered by Walker, November 1863 and 1864 are located among the Records of the Office of the Chief of Engineers, Record Group 77.

"RG 77: CWMF Z-50 -1: No plot number. It is a linen tracing and could well be a copy of #1. Neches River between the vicinity of Beaumont and Richardson Bluff.; the Sabine River between the vicinity of Orange and Belgrade.

RG 77 CWMF Z 50-2: Plot II
RG 77 CWMF Z 50-3: Plot III
RG 77 CWMF Z 50-4: Plot IV
RG 77 CWMF Z 50-5: Plot V
RG 77 CWMF Z 50-6: Plot VI

These plots not described.

RG 77 CWMF Z 50-7: Plot VII AD 1864
RG 77 CWMF Z 50-8: Plot VIII Orange to Camps Ferry

There are also detailed linen tracings in this file."

I've now emailed them back to see about getting a copy of Plot VII which we hope will get the Sabine River crossings and roads for Rusk (part of which is now Gregg) County. What we're looking for is the most likely route for POWs heading from Shreveport to Camp Ford and back.
