His records are filed under the name U. P. Stephenson. In a card or two of his file, his middle initial, the cursive 'P', looks like a 'J'

He may have been at Camden while on wounded furlough.

U. P. Stephenson, Private, Company K, 5th Texas Infantry, enlisted March 22, 1862 in Liberty County, Texas for the duration of the war, granted furlough of 40 days commencing April 4,1864, wounded (slightly in head) at Cold Harbor June 3, 1864 and admitted to CSA General Hospital, Danville, Va., furloughed June 19, present at the July & August, 1864 muster, wounded severely in leg at Fort Harrison September 29 and admitted that day to the Receiving & Wayside Hospital, Richmond, transferred to the Howard Grove hospital the next day, on wounded furlough, 50 days, from October 12, 1864, believe at Gainesville,Georgia, present at the end of year muster, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va. April 9, 1865
