H L. Flynt

Enlisted as a Private
"B" Co. TX 3rd AZ Brig Cavalry

H. L. Flynt enlisted as a Private and elected subsequently as a 2nd Lieutenant in Captain George W. Durant's Company May 3, 1862 in Grimes County, last shown present on the Jan & Feb, 1863 muster roll**, there were no further company muster rolls which have survived, thus, we cannot ascertain the status of the company and men thereafter from these records.

* This company subsequently became Company B, Madison's Regiment Texas Cavalry (Third Regiment, Arizonia Brigade)

Madison's Regiment Texas Cavalry was first organized as the 3rd Battalion Arizona Brigade, with four companies, A to D, S. O. No. 81, Hdqrs. Dist. of Tex., N. Mex. and Ariz. dated February 21, 1863, authorized its increase to a regiment by the addition of Captans Fancett's and Hendrick's Companies and such others as might be assigned to it. Captain Faucett's Company appears to have never joined the regiment. The four companies of the battalin became Companies E, ?, F and G of the regiment. Companies A, H. and C were formerly independent companies which were assigned to the regiment by S. O. No. 88, Hdqrs. Dist. of Tex. N. Mex. and Ariz., dated March 1, 1863. Company I was assigned by S. O. No. 40, Hdqrs. EAster Sub-District of Texas, dated March 26, 1863. The regiment was also known as Phillips' Regiment Texas Cavalry and as the 3rd Regiment Arizonia Brigade.

** Record of Events: Morning of January the first the Captain and seven men were in the fight at Galveston. After that time the Company guarded the telegraph wires riding every two miles every half hour for the distance of fifteen miles.
