Harden Williams CW Death

I know very little about this ancestor - not even the side he fought on. So, this is a real puzzler but here's what has been passed down.

Harden Williams was on a troop train and became ill and died during the Civil War while a soldier. The train stopped and he was buried along side the tracks somewhere near Omaha, Nebraska. I suppose someone placed a marker on his grave? It was passed down that for years after the Civil War, the engineers of the trains would either slow down and salute his grave or stop so the passengers could get off and take a walk near his grave.

That's all and I have no idea where to begin this search. Does anyone have any suggestions.
