I am looking for information regarding my great-great grandfather, Obed Vanpool, Capt., CSA, Kaufman County, TX 13th Brig., later 19th Texas Cavalry, Co. G.
He was born in Carroll Cty., TN 1/12/1825, (1850 census), moved to TX approx. 1854 to Kaufman Cty. In 1854 he was a deputy to Sheriff James Eagan. 1860 Kaufman census shows him married to Mary Elizabeth Gray, with 5 children. Also recorded in 1870 Kaufman census, wife and 7 children. Died 1874 in Hood Cty.
Not on CSA pension lists that I can find.
Can anyone point me in the direction of his service record, areas where his outfits served, or any information to assist me with my application to the UDC?
He is a dead end gap in my genealogy right now as far as his forebears go. I can link from him through his daughter. my great grandmother, straight to me.
I would like to know more, no matter how peripheral. Thank you very much. This is a wonderful site.
