Re: 22nd Texas Cavalry Regiment

I have Thomas M(abry) Cain who immigrated to Hunt County Texas in 1850 from Mississippi. This is from a Hunt County, Tx, Genealogy Website. He later served as a legislator from Rains County. Now I have another reference, a 1915 obituary from Rains County that says he was in the 11th Texas Cavalry. The Confederate soldiers index puts a T. M. Cain in the 11th as a Private in Company H. The Texas Online biography said he was a Captain. So rank of private may be his enlistment rank and the "captain" his final rank. I'm not sure. I'm wondering which one is accurate. Hope I can find some help on this. Thanks.
