I have one "Charles Matney" listed in my book as a Pvt in a Tarrant Co TX militia (Jun 1861). ..I strive to locate soldiers in the 1860 census, but could only find a Chs Matney that may fit in the 1900 Ellis Co TX cen, p72. ..Where was he found in the 1860 census? 1870 census?

Waller presented in the American Civiil War Research Database. ..Since I study the Civil War era of 34 North Texas counties, I immediately think of Col. James Burnett's 13th TX Cavalry when I see the term "13th Cavalry" which is easily confused with Waller's 13th Battn TX Cavalry. ..Since I primarily study the last 1-1/2 years of the War on the North and West Frontier, I see this awkward regimental moniker often. ..If you contact me, I'll glaly send you this outline blocked in color that is much easier to understand.

I must quickly add that I find it interesting that a Louisiana resident came in June 1861 to Tarrant County to enroll in a Texas militia. .... A devout Confederate and captain of a Jefferson, Marion County TX militia wrote the following that accompanied his militia listing. ... “[W]e do not wish to be ordered out of the State: nor do we desire to be called upon to move until it becomes necessary for a general turn out all over the country, as the most of us have familys [sic], but ....."
