OT / dating a photograph

I have recently been given a photograph purported to of my GG Grandfather taken in the years immediately after the Civil War. Its a digital copy of the original.

By way of background, he served as a Private in Co. D - Polk Rifles - Phillips Legion [Georgia], Wofford's Brigade

he was wounded & captured at Knoxville 11/29/1863, sent to Fort Delaware 3/4/1864. Exchanged 9/18/1864, Furloughed home 9/26/1864.

To make a long story short, the photo is remarkable in its clarity and detail ... so much so, that some in my family are insistent that the picture cannot be one of him.

Even though the clothing is period correct imo ,,,, they argue that the man shown is much too young for a photo such a remarkable state.

My question is this; are there experts who can date such a photograph based on the features of the subject and the style of the photography?

(as you can see, it has been hand tinted)

and to you all here, do the clothes look correct for the period between 1866 -1874?

TIA ~
