So many years after the war, the editor who published this list might not have known. On the other hand, the casualty report itself was written shortly after the fighting ended. Names given to many battles are not determined for some time afterwards, so it's not mentioned here, either.

However, we do read descriptions of what happened to the Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel of the 4th Texas Regiment during this famous attack. Most regimental histories will mention senior officers and where they were killed or wounded. That helps us determine the name of this battle, usually called Gaines Mill, Va., June 27, 1862.
