There is no John Taylor listed in the roster of the 28th Texas Cavalry. Of the six Taylors in the regiment, none
were in Company A. We do find, however, five John M. Taylors in Texas units.

joined as a Private August 30, 1864 at Bonham having been transferred from Bourland's regiment [no records in

Bourland's regiment]

"A" Co. TX Terry's Cavalry [Roll 49 8th Cavalry (Terry's Regiment, 1st Rangers, 8th Rangers] [Roll 55 - M-Z]

Only one card in his file dated March 1864, at Galveston, Texas, I cannot read the notation under remarks.

"G" Co. TX 36th Cavalry (Woods')

enlisted as a Private, age 27, Stock Raiser, April 3, 1862 at Clinton, DeWitt County, Texas, discharged by reason of

disability June 25, 1862,

"G" Co. TX 14th Cavalry (Johnson's Mounted Volunteers)

enlisted as a Private, age 24, January 17, 1862 at Camp Likens??, Smith County, Texas, died at hospital June 7, 1862

"A" Co. TX 12th Cavalry (Parson's Mounted Volunteers)

enlisted as a Private October 28, 1861, age 19, at Camp Hebert near Hempstead [only one card in his file]

"G" Co. TX 3rd Cavalry (South Kansas-Texas Mounted Volunteers)

enlisted as a Private September 7,1861 at Scotts Mills, Missouri, age 25, appointed Hospital Steward May 20, 1862, also

recorded on some muster rolls as an Assistant Surgeon [note - Hospital Stewards were predominately Pre-Med

students or Pharmacists]
