Sabine Pass Park Day (April 18, 2009)

Sabine Pass Battleground Park Needs Your Help

The Civil War Preservation Trust, a national organization, has designated Saturday, April 18, 2009 as “Park Day.” This annual event, sponsored by the Texas Historical Commission, is a work day that gives the public an opportunity to visit and improve a historic site. The Sabine Pass Battleground Park was severely damaged during recent hurricanes and your help is needed in the recovery.

Registration begins at 9:00 AM and the first 125 volunteers will receive a t-shirt and arm patch commemorating the event which will end at 2:00 PM.

The projects for the day are assembling and installing picnic tables, replacing soil at the base of the Dick Dowling monument and cleaning inside of munition magazines. Some tools will be available but volunteers are encouraged to bring additional tools suitable for the projects. The completion of the projects is necessary before the reopening of the Park.
