CSA Wells' Battn, TST militia, then Wells Bn again

Some soldiers were transferred from the CSA to the Texas State Troops.

From Thomas R. Allen's TX CSA Denton Co TX pension application #38092.

“I enlisted in October 1861 and surrendered . . . to General Reynolds of the U.S. Army at Ft. Gibson in April 1865 and was released from custody at Fort Leavenworth, KS in June 1865. . . . I first enlisted in Captain Scantlin’s Company, which was Co. A. in Welles Battalion Cavalry . . . was transferred to Capt. Shoemake's Company in the fall of 1863 and served one year and was transferred to Beard’s Company [W.A. Beard – Well’s Texas Cavalry Regiment; Co. I], with which I surrendered. . . . I was detailed to work in the hospital during the winter of 1862. ...”

On Jan 30, 1864, T.R. Allen, age 18, was elected as 3rd Corporal in TST Captain W.H. Shoemake's Company of militiamen. Also, since T.R. Allen said he served one year in [implied] militia, he probably first served in Capt. Birdwell's militia.
