Company K, 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment had just returned to Collin County after being disbanded on August 31, 1861 in the IT. You were disbanded where ever Texas money ran out. Their designation was Captain James W. Throckmorton's, Mounted Riflemen, Collin City., 3rd Texas Cavalry., Col. William C. Young Commanding, TST.
I had not known that Bridges company had been in the same situation as Company K. I assume that they were. Company I, 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment was an good example of a really good company. AT Corinth they were skirmishers and sharpshooters attached to Ras Stirman's Arkansas Sharpshooter Regiment. Bridges was a LTC. They reached the building that been Rosecran's headquarters and caused him to retreat, before running out of ammunition and into a fresh Union division. The next day at Hatchie Bridge the company was crossing the bridge when all heck broke loose. My GGF broke his arm either from cannon fire or jumping into the river. The company recovered back across the river and provided cover fire for Sul Ross who was doing his own blocking action allowing the reminents of the 3rd and 27th Tx Cavalries and Moore's Brigade to return. Six weeks later, remounted, Company I was back with the 6th and went on the Holly Springs Raid which started 19 Dec 1962 and returned Jan 1, 1863. They captured the Union Depot at Holly Springs helping to prolong the war. The next day at Davis Mill the unit attacked a very strong position in a block house, and had several casulties. General Van Dorn called off the attack, because it was not worth the losses. The raid moved on and left a field hospital working in the field near the site. This is probably where Anderson died.
