Prairie Grove (ARK) Reenactment

The following is taken from today's (Dec 2 '08) Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (statewide news paper) editorial page, columnists George Arnold. Today's column is entitled "Walking with Ghosts" and is an excellent summary of both the Battle of Prairie Grove (December 7, 1862) and why it's important not to forget. Quoted, in part:

"This year as in every even-numbered year The Battle...will be re-enacted on the old battlefield. Re-enactors, in period uniforms and costumes and bearing period arms will put on a show for the crowds expected to attend. This year's re-enactment starts on Saturday (Dec 6th)and continues through Sunday afternoon...."

"This year's commemoration is also special since it is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the battlefield park...."

Prairie Grove State Historical Park is locate on US-62 a few miles west of Fayetteville in Washington County (northwestern Arkansas).

Since some Texas regiments were involved, this may be of interest to some of you.
