There is considerable service information about Waller's 13th Cavalry Battalion in two books by Donald S. Frazier.

There are 12 references to the battalion in "Fire In The Canefield - Jan 61-Jan 63." In Chapter 6, the first few pages provide details of the organization and leaving on July 1, 1862 for Louisiana. It appears they were drilling and and training at "Camp Texas" until late August. During this period the sixth company from Ft Worth joined the battalion and became Co E. No specific information is given for the date, Aug 1, 1862.
Chapter 8 provides the details of the disaster at Bonnet Carre where the battalion became boxed in and had to leave their horses and take to the swamps to escape. Company E was the only company with horses as they were escorting a wagon train and were not trapped.
