Re: Burial Site for Union KIA's at Philadelphia Tn

Thanks George and Gerald, no luck at either Chattanooga or Knoxville? Nothing about researching this man has been easy, my wife and I have searched for him for several years. He and his son Alfred Wesley joined the 1st In Cav. in 1861, no further records. We found a record from the Indiana Adjutant General report after the War, which stated they were missing and unaccounted for? A family researcher, Prof. J. A. Cagle, stated that George was killed at Knoxville in 1863. This didn't make sense, because the 1st Ind was in the Western theater Mo., Ar., and La.
We were at a dead end, I posted on the In. message board and didn't get any real info or cooperation except from George Martin, thanks for that. I had been looking at a G.W Pirkle with the 12 Ky Cav, my wife said no he was too young age 44, G.W. was b. 1814 he would have been 48, and lived in In. not Ky. this man had to be a relative with the same name? I was also looking at a Wesley Pirkle, her G.G. Grand father, who was with the 10th In Cav that died at Vincennes In. Feb.20, 1864. Again, my wife said this couldn't be him, because her Grand father was Alfred Wesley, till recently I found that there was a man named William B. who also served in the 10th In Cav., now it all made sense. William B. was a younger brother who raised Alfred W.'s orphaned son George M. Pirkle, my wife's G. Grandfather.
I have Fold3, but Ind only has 1 index card for it's Soldiers, which is in what Unit they served, nothing else. So here is the scenario, in what I believe happened, George and Alfred joined for 12 mo. in the 1st Cav., they wouldn't allow George to re-enlist because of age, so they both get out? George lies about his age and joins the 12 Ky. When son's Alfred W. and William B. get word Daddy has been killed, 20 Oct. 1863, they enlist in the 10th In Cav in Jan.1864, mustered in Vincennes and Alfred dies from some sort of Camp Disease in Feb.? I can back this up now with pension index cards, not much info though, G.W's wife's widow pension, a minor's pension for George M. received well after adulthood in the 1880's? And a disability claim by William B. and later widow pension for his wife Clara.
I know that this is the Tn site and these men were from In, and should be posted there and perhaps I will, but George W., and Alfred W. lived in Sumner Co Tn for awhile, William B. was born in Sumner Co before the family moved on to Indiana. Then George W. met his death in Tennessee, so I believe this site warrants this post. Also, so as to not put all my Egg's in one basket, I will take any and all information to finally piece together the last pieces of this puzzle.
Thanks again.
