It is not that common to find birthplace in soldiers records.

Richard Wilkins, age 20, Private, (2nd) Company F, 42nd Regiment Tennessee Infantry,* enlisted November 15, 1862 at Port Hudson by Col. Hulme for the war, recorded absent, sick October 26, 1863, previously recorded sick in hospital, no further records

Note: There are no further company muster rolls in the records which does not allow us to follow his subsequent service or status

* This company was known at various times as Captain McCollum's Company Volunteers, Captain Coleman's Company, Company B and (2nd) Company F, 42nd Regiment Tennessee Infantry
