Re: Ramsey's Battery

Dear Leslie,

I have researched my relative (William Jefferson Haynes) and also found a link between him and Capt. Ramsey's Battery.
Please look up the records of this unit engaged in the battle of Turkey Ridge, West of Rome, Ga, whereby this unit along with a few hundred others fooled a Union solider unit of approximately 1,500 men and convinced them they were surrounded by a much larger force by moving the cannons of Capt. Ramsey's battery around as to provide the appearance of having many cannons, vs. only 2 cannons. The Union troops surrendered and were marched into Rome, GA and taken as POW's.

I would be interested to know more of your findings.

My GGranfather went by Wm. Jeff Haynes and was listed as a Sgt. in Capt. Ramsey's Battery at the end of the war.

Sincerely,
Tim
