Re: 150th anniversary of Fort Henry (belated)..!!!

Great research Kenneth! Being a little proud myself, I have no doubt our ancestors in Captain Taylor's Company were just as heroic as the Spartans. Their hard fighting provided the needed cover to send 3,000 additional troops to Ft. Donelson and with capable leadership, that garrison would have taken advantage of their defeat of Grant's army on the 15th and left the battlefield for better venues. That very possible scenario would have made the cannoneers of Ft. Henry famous for all time. Instead, the fort lies at the bottom of Kentucky Lake, buried with the dreams of liberty and the bodies of more than a few men, women, and children who only wanted to follow the plow, stand behind a counter, or sit on the rough benches of an old field school house.
