* The regiment was mustered in the field as the 4th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry but was officially designated as the 8th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry (Smith's)

Anderson for 12 months, elected Jr. 2nd (3rd) Lieutenant August 5, 1863, absent on Surgeon's certificate, in hospital, August 10, 1864, captured at Pulaski, Tenn. December 25, 1864, sent to Fort Delaware, Del. prison camp from Military Prison, Louisville, Ky., January 9, 1865, subscribed to the Oath of Allegiance to the US, description: resident of Smyth [sic], Tenn., dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, 5' 7", released June 17, 1865
