William W. Smith 3rd Tennessee Infantry (Clacks)

I need a little help on William W. Smith who was in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry (Clacks). According to records at footnote he enlisted May 17, 1861 and was in the war through 1864. His listed his residence as Giles County, Tennessee.

My issue is which William W. Smith is he. My ancestor (William W. Smith) was born in 1825 in Giles County and lived there his entire life, dying in 1908. In the 1860 census I find another William W. Smith who was born around 1835 living in the town of Lynnville, with parents Pleasant and Sarah Smith. So, I'm wondering what William W. Smith served in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry. Are there any records that would show the age, like maybe an enlistment record that would narrow down who it was.

Any help would be deeply appreciated,

Mike
