........if Gen Longstreet had taken Knoxville, could he have held it with Sherman (spit) on the way up from Chattanooga? Longstreet did seem to quit trying to take Knoxville pretty quick. If it had been me, I would not have attacked Fort Sanders in the first place. Theres a lot about the Battle of Knoxville I don't understand. His losses were very very light considering all the battles he had been in before. Seems like he just gave up and left town. But then again, he did have to worry about Sherman (spit) and his supplies had to be getting low.
