The enlisted men of the Battalion,after a portion were captured at Donelson(over a 100 got out with Forrest) were held temporarily at Terre Haute at the Williams Hog Barn for a month or so before being shipped over to Camp Morton. About 10 years ago on a trip up to Indianapolis,I checked out all the Terre Haute and Indy newspapers at the downtown state archives for details. Also contacted the local SCV and they do or did decorate the graves annually.
I do not think much of Terre Haute,Indiana. It was there that some unknown party shot my GGGF in the head from outside the stockade. He very nearly ended up in that cemetery as well but survived another 20 years with a half dollar size scar on his forehead.Lucky for me as I'd not be here today...
