Thanks Alice! I looked at both of those. I'm looking for more detail--I can see on mapquest the same sort of bubble with "Randolph" but if I zoom in, there is nothing there except a crossroads! I found a TN historical site today which indicated Randolph had a population at one time of 1000 people, but that it had begun to fade long before the Union troops burned the town. And then, to my surprise, that same article said the Union army had burned Randolph a second time in 1865! First time I had heard that. I think I am going to have to travel from Bowling Green. KY to Tipton County, TN and see what I can learn!
