The "Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System" of the National Parks Service can be accessed on-line and lists many James Jones Confederate TN veterans, 6 (out of 87) of which are listed with the Middle Initial of "R". This might be a good start by researching a bit on each one of the units listed to see which outfits were raised from the county wherein he lived. Hope this helps a bit...
