Re: Turney's 1st Tennessee Regiment

Henry T. Childs was the half-brother of my great, great grandfather, Bennett Walker Childs. Bennett was mustered out of the 1st Tennessee after being wounded during the Seven Days fighting. He never came back due to his "advanced age" (mid to late 30s). He left the country after the war for the so-called "Price Grant" in Venezuela with his family, but died of fever in 1867 trying to hack a living out of the jungle.

Much younger Henry was sent home to recuperate from wounds suffered well after the Seven Days it seems. Presumably he was gone before Gettysburg based on the correspondence seen here. My readings have indicated that Henry was out of service for the better part of a year after leaving the 1st Tennessee, but then later joined "Forrest's Escort" until the war's end or thereabouts. Henry shows up in at least one post War unit reunion picture I have seen. What an old mule skinner he appears to be!

I have not seen unit pictures of either of the brothers taken during the war. Do any exist I wonder?
