The original news item about John Devan got me interested in the soldiers that jumped into that icy water. According to Mr. Greg Biggs of the TN Civil War Roundtable, 1,000 or so got out that day. Since posting this, I have kept my eye out for more sightings of men who did it, but have found amazingly few. My question: Can anyone point me to a source of any kind wherein I can find the stories (or even a list) of some of the Fort Donelson swimmers?

As an aside, I believe this John Devan is a kinsman of Mr. Rick Bryant of list fame.
