William L. Ritter, 1st Lieutenant, Captain John B. Rowan’s Company (Stephens Light Artillery), formerly the 3rd Battery Maryland Artillery,* enlisted October 24, 1861 at Richmond, Va. by Capt. Latrobe for the war, recorded as Captain on the Jan/Feb,1865 muster roll, company headquarters Mobile on March 3, 1865

* This company was organized as the 3rd Battery Maryland Artillery and served as such until September or October, 1863, when it was reorganized, the designation changed to the Stephens Light Artillery and the organization credited to the State of Georgia. It subsequently became Captain Ritter’s Company, Georgia Light Artillery
