I found an article in The New York Herald, 24 April 1862, re: Ft Wright. It is easy to access on the internet just by typing the newspaper name and date. It has a map of the forts on the Mississippi near Memphis. It also had a table of distance to the forts from Cairo:

How do these mileages compare to what you have seen?

I find it amazing that a northern newspaper had some much information (right or wrong) about Ft. Wright.
