Re: James A Brooks in Tennessee

By, Mr. George, 19 Jan 2011.

J. A. Brooks, Private, Co. E, 2nd Tennessee Infantry, C. S. A., his one card is a Reference Slip which notes: See 29th Tenn. Infantry

James A. Brooks, Private, Company C, 29th Regiment Tennessee Infantry, enlisted August 1, 1861 at Cumberland Gap by Colonel F. M. Walker for one year, subscribed to Oath of Allegiance to the U. S., February 3, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee, deserted November 30, 1864, description, resident of Murray County, Tenn., fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, 5' 8", remarks: "No family," his names appears on a list of those paroled with the forces of General Joseph E. Johnston, May 1, 1865 at Greensboro, N. C.*

M268: Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Tennessee

* I would believe, had he indeed signed his Oath to the US in February, then, the fellow who filled out the roster of those paroled May 1, may have included his name from an old muster roll and failed to authenticate his presence, just a theory.

=========================

I can say with certain that James Brooks future wife Jennette F Thompson was living in Maury County in 1860, and she is 18 years old.

Marriage: 19 Mar 1865 • Williamson, Tennessee

Five years and still can't find this man with certain. My 2nd Great Grandfather.
