Re: 1st Tennessee Infantry Regiment CSA

I have done extensive research on the 1st Tennessee (Turney) and know well the service record of Captain Bevell of the Ridgedale Hornets - Co D
( Captain John Bevell 34 year old Franklin County farmer enlisted 4/29/ 1861 W 7/3 (later C Petersburg)

He and his company are featured in my two books on the fighting at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg (where he was wounded) -- At Fredericksburg the 1st Tn -- including Co D held back the union assault at the railroad track and helped save Prospect Hill. At Gettysburg the 1st Tn took part in 1st & 3rd day fighting..... My books - Also for Glory & Meade';s Breakthrough at Fredericksburg are the most detailed review of 1st TN actions in both battles. 2nd Lt Thomas Baggett served with Co D of the 1st TN from the date of his appointment - 2/18/1862 until the end of his term 4/27/1862 when his term ended and he was not reelected. He may well have joined the 2nd Battalion Hilliards Legion which later became the 59th Alabama Co B. He did not fight at either Fredericksburg or Gettysburg. He may have fought at Chicamauga and then come east to be merged with Gordon's Corps Johnston's Division
