Our Speaker and Topic - “Death and Burials of the Confederate Soldiers who died in Nashville during the War”

Coming from his extensive research into the Confederate Death Roster of the Battles of Franklin and Nashville, historian Tim Burgess has developed extensive work on the deaths and burials of Confederate soldiers who were killed in these battles as well as died from disease or wounds in Nashville hospitals. The product of 35 years of research into cemetery records, undertaker records, Civil War Rosters and files, Nashville newspapers and much more, from the Tennessee State Library & Archives to the National Archives, Mr. Burgess has become the expert on such matters for Middle Tennessee and has helped identify many buried soldiers in Middle Tennessee Cemeteries.

This is also the topic of his 2012 book, Confederate Deaths and Burials: Nashville, Tennessee 1861-1865 (Authors Corner, Nashville), of which he will have copies for sale at this months meeting.

Tim Burgess has been interested in the War Between the States ever since grade school. Recently retired from Tennessee State Government with 34 years of service as an Investigator and Assistant Director of Investigations for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. He has received numerous awards, citations and letters of appreciation over the years from various State Historical Organizations, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Tim maintains a large database of Confederate Deaths and Burials and Confederate Images. He continues working on his 35 year research on Confederate Deaths and Burials for the Confederate Army of Tennessee’s 1864-65 Campaign in Tennessee.
