Dunlop, Sequatchie County, & The Civil War

Two brothers, Jesse & William Land (my 3 x removed 1st cousins) were from here. Early in the war, this area was occupied by the Union Army ? These two brothers and a brother-in-law, were caught while sick at home. They belonged to the 35th Tennessee Infantry, Company H. They never rejoined the Rebel Army. In March, 1865 William joined the Union 6th Tn. Mtd Infantry and served six months fighting bushwhackers in southern Tennessee and north Georgia. Would someone have some details about the Union occupation and would the brothers have been behind Federal lines for the remainder of the war ? That has always seemed somewhat unrealistic to me. Didn't Wheeler raid through here ?
