I went to Ft. Pillow in 1984, this time of year. There was a 5 mile race that began and ended at the site. I remember looking at some artifacts and two accounts in Yankee newspapers. I did not see anything that presented another point of view. Some inmates escaped from a nearby prison and the race was almost cancelled. Afterwards, we were told the inmates had stolen guard uniforms and on the way out (1-2 miles), do not stop for ANYBODY until we reached the check point by the highway. There were heavily armed men and they searched all over every vehicle, including the trunks. The end.
