Thanks Greg. My search is to find what happened to three of my male ancestors from 1863 to the end of the war. I have brief military records and I am certain they lived in Stewart County during this time and I have reason to suspect that at least two and possibly all three served as partisans or "bushwhackers" as the Yankees would call them. I read "With Blood and Fire" and I believe that my best hope for finding information is to study those unorganized provost marshal records for a long time. I know that two of them signed the oath, but one joined Napier's Batt. in 1862 and was with them when they were mustered into the 10th TN Cavalry in Feb. 1863 following the second Battle of Dover. This ancestor's last military entry shows him absent, possibly sick in April/May 1863.
