Re: State Penitentiary (Nashville)

I did some research on the Penitentiary years ago. Stonewall St is 16th Ave. North now. The Penitentiary Grounds were bordered by Stonewall St. on the left side. Carroll St. (now 15th Ave. N.) on the Right. Cedar St. (now Charlotte Ave.) at the rear. And Church St. (still) the Front.
I have only seen one photo of it from the Church St entrance for the main building. It is believed that the Warden's House is still there but has been added on to it. Maps I have seen show different buildings thru the years. I have read that during the War the entire grounds were Stockaded with Wood. A small spring ran thru the rear of the grounds. Champ was probably hanged inside the Prison Grounds as it looked in a Artist Drawing of the Hanging.
