George,

Thanks for the time line. You are correct, it was a small window. Capt. Holloway evidently made it because On Oct. 19 he WAS in Gordonsville, Virginia. He signed a voucher for grain and fodder for his horse (1 day) On Oct. 20, he signed another one in Staunton, VA. Most likely took the train from Gordonsville to Staunton. From there, via horse back, he was in New Market, VA on Oct. 21 and reported for duty with
Major Hunter H. McGuire, Surgeon, Medical Director, Army of the Valley [2nd Corps-ANV]. It would seem that he "boarded the cars" Oct. 12/13. Sounds more like a "movie script" than a true account. I must say I've been fortunate to run across documents, letters, journals, the OR reports, plus word of mouth from the doctor himself. The doctor and his young wife told the "war stories" and shared letters with their grand daughter. The young girl wrote them down. She is now 103 yrs. old, living in Arlington, VA. She still has a very sharp mind as well as the stories and letter from 1863-1865. I've been able to 'track' the doctor as he attended to the wounded from battle to battle during the Atlanta Campaign. Little snippets such as your time line, make his journey basically dodging "the Yankees" from North Georgia to Virginia come alive.
