Found the information I was looking for. The point that the RR from Chattanooga to Virginia returned to Confederate control in Oct. of 1864 may have been Rogersville Jct. Here is what Gen RE Lee reported to the CS Sec of War on Oct. 10, 1864:
Honorable JAMES A. SEDDON, Secretary of War:
General Breckinridge reports Vaughn's cavalry drove the enemy from Rogersville on the 8th, killing and wounding a good many. No enemy in any force this side of Bull's Gap. Railroad [and] telegraph open to Carter's Depot. R. E. LEE, General. [OR, V39, P3, p. 811]
