Thank you, Mr. Odom, for a reasoned and reasonable post. I repeat, however, it's not the city becoming "largely Black" that's driving this whole process, as this is occuring in many different venues in several states. The racists have done a good job of making the average American see hatred when they see or hear tell of a Confederate flag of any type, or Confederate Memorials, etc. Were it not for The White Citizens Councils, and like organizations of the 50s and 60s, when Southern racists were flying various Confederate flags and raising H*** against intergration, the American people wouldn't see and feel the hatred and the Memorials would be fine and dandy. (And of course that murdering thing in Carolina of more recent date.) We should put the blame where it belongs, not on the Blacks.

I must admit, also, that I'm at a loss to know who the "Few" are of whom you speak. This whole process has broad support according to what polls have been taken on the matter, and you have Southern Governors removing Memorials and statues left and right. We will all live just as long whether they are taken down or stay up. We can all still meet here at Mr. Martin's fine site and cuss and discuss the Civil War in all its many facets and enjoy fellowship without getting emotional and all shook up.

Again, thank you. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

Regards,
Hoyt Cagle
