Well, it would seem that neither the original poster, nor anyone else, is interested in this type of material, as evidenced by the lack of responses thereto. Will only add that Gen. Quarles died in Logan County. KY. (according to newspaper obits, although Wikipedia says Todd County, KY) in Dec 1893, that he had a political career in TN. before and after the war, and that his house (on the Historical Register) was extant in 2003 in Clarksville. Although he was apparently in Clarksville at Camp Walton a few days before the fall of Fort Donelson, he was reportedly taken prisoner at the Fort. His Bios can be found:

I do appreciate the original poster for this query, as it put me on to one really great item that I have never come across anywhere, and I will hopefully get a story out of it. I also enjoyed the horse genealogy story.
