M. H. Clark, confidential secretary of Jefferson Davis and the last acting treasurer of the Confederate States died in Washington yesterday at the age of eighty-two years. His home was in Clarksville, Tenn. He went to Washington two weeks ago to visit his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Munford. Mr. Clark was born in Richmond and became associated with the President of the Confederacy early in the history of the "Lost Cause." He was present at Washington, Georgia, when the Confederate Cabinet disbanded and at that time was in charge of the remaining funds of the Confererate Treasury. Recently Mr. Clark gave to the Library of Congress in Washington valuable documents relating to the Confederate States and some interesting relics which had long been in his possession. He had the last official signature of Mr. Davis, but he donated that to the museum in Richmond.
