9th Calvary

I am researching Charles Volney Cyrus, who was a member of Gantt's Battalion. He enlisted November 30, 1861 in Maury County. He was captured at Fort Donelson in February 1862, exchanged in September at Vicksburg. He was promoted from Private to Adjutant in April 1863. Captured again November 11, 1863 "by forces under the command of Major General Thomas." I am curious about ANY information on C.V. Cyrus, but I am particularly interested in (1) what the 9th Calvary was doing when he was captured in November 1863, (2) as Adjutant was he likely responsible for correspondence? and 3) where does one find battalion correspondence?

He served the rest of the war as a POW.

Appreciate any help!
