Am looking for confirmation of a family story. My 95 year old grand mother tells the story about a family name change regarding her 2nd great grandfather who was in the 25th Regiment Tennessee Infantry Company E, William Lafayette Hitchcock of Cherry Creek, White County, Tennessee. All of his descendants surname is Luke. The oral history she shares is that there was another Hitchcock in the regiment or company with the same name so he chose to go by Luke. I am looking for any info regarding this.
