The South Carolina in the Civil War Message Board

Sergeant J.E. Caldwell Third South Carolina Inf.

I am in the process of selling a couple of images that I purchased a few years ago and am trying to find collectors in their home states first, before attempting to sell them to dealers or on Ebay.
One of them is a beautiful sixth plate ambrotype of a seated Confederate Infantry sergeant. His sergeants stripes are made from what appears to be "piping" and some of the threads have come loose on one set (as they can be seen drooping). The buttons have been gilded by the photographer but he missed a script "I" button on a shoulder strap.
Purchased along with the image is a 19 page mimeographed copy of Sergeant Caldwell's post war recollections of his military experiences (including his part in the Gettysburg retreat). He also mentions in the transcripts that his father was a represenative for Newberry County in the Secession Convention for the State of South Carolina, and that he had to flee for his safety because of this.
Anyway , it's a great image and has a great history as well. But I am collecting items pertaining to the Fourth Michigan Infantry now and have to sell some things to buy some things. The image and transcripts were not cheap but still well worth the price that I paid for them. In other words, I can't and won't take a losss on them.I have one month to find a new home for the images in order to make some Fourth Michigan Infantry purchases.
As I said in my messages on the "Mississippi" messageboard (where the other image is offered), I really would like to see these two great images make it and yet recover my money to buy the items from my hometown regiment.
If anyone here is interested, please contact me for a price and any further details and refences that you may need. I will only post this message this one time, in order to avoid commercializing this message board, but will be happy to respond to all inquiries. Thanks, George Wilkinson
