“Private E. Vehorn, Company F 13th South Carolina, was wounded at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863 and was treated in hospital at Chester. Acting Assistant Surgeon B. Brinton contributed the specimen, shown in the annexed cut. (Fig. 147) and described the injury as a “shot wound of the right hip, fracturing the femur near its neck. Patient died of exhaustion October 13, 1863.” The specimen consists of the upper portion of the femur, showing oblique fracture through the lesser trochanter, with a moderate deposit of callus, but without union. “
