The enemy on the Appomattox.

--Four Yankee gunboats ascended the Appomattox river last Thursday night, and commenced shelling a small force of Confederates as Point of Rocks, about a mile below the entrance to Port Walthall, Lieut. Crenshaw and Private John Edwards, of Surry county, were wounded.

August 8th, 1862.

Thirty Dollars reward.--The above reward will be paid for the apprehension of John Edwards, who deserted from my company on the 6th August, 1862. Said Edwards, hails from Culpeper county, Va; he is 47 years of age, light complexion, hazel eyes, sandy hair. The reward will be paid upon his being arrested and lodged in prison, or delivered to me at the camp of 1st RegimentVirginia Artillery, near Blakey's Mill Pond.

Deserted.

--From my camp, near Shield's Spring, half a mile West of Winder Hospital, on the 8th of September, John Edwards 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, blue eyes, sandy hair, fair and rather florid complexion, born in Ireland, and claims to be a citizen of Maryland; is square shouldered and stout. Said deserter was under sentence of court- martial, and had on a ball and chain at the time he left.

I will give $30 reward for his apprehension and delivery to me at Richmond, or at my camp.

The Richmond Daily Dispatch: February 20, 1863.

Pardoned.

--John Edwards, private 1st regiment Virginia artillery, who was sentenced by Court- Martial to be shot for an alleged desertion, has been pardoned by Executive clemency. Edwards was tried in December, was sentenced to be shot on the 31st of last January, but respited for twenty days by the President in order that he might collect evidence in his case. The evidence was sufficient to warrant his pardon.
